New Relations
New Relations is a twenty-minute, one-act comedy about a young, Black couple, newly married and naive about matrimonial bliss. Lisa and Dewayne discover the reality of marriage when idealism and expectation run out of control in this war of the sexes. New Relations takes us on a comedic roller coaster ride until the characters are grounded when a tragic event occurs. The tragedy forces them to look at their faith and each other, which become the true foundation for restarting their marriage.
Common Good
Common Good is a short, funny holiday play that takes place on Christmas Eve on the first floor of a large department store. Bernadette and Doneeda bump carts while Christmas shopping and are determined to upstage each other with their many charitable works. Their attempts at one-upmanship as Lady Bountiful become more and more absurd by the minute. Apparently, neither one of them ever heard of doing good anonymously.
Price of Bail
Full-length play that focuses on Ma'dear, a strong African American matriarch and her three grown daughters. Ma'dear has charged her family to come up with bail money to get her only son out of prison. The family embodies the idea of what is both good in the culture and what went wrong due to the disease of an oppressive social environment. This play is an unforgettable walk through injustice, power, pain, humor, tears, irony, separation, oppression and finally, change.
